We are built on a foundation of responsible operations.

By continually aiming to reduce our environmental footprint, increasing the sustainability of our supply chain and creating a safe workplace, we can protect our employees and the environment, while developing high-quality, innovative products.

Health, Safety and Environmental Preventive Culture

Identifying, assessing and preventing occupational risks is a top priority for Bombardier. Our vision is to be a leader in Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Preventive Culture, which, for us, means taking a highly proactive approach to limiting HSE risks and creating an environment where innovation and productivity flourish. Supply Chain

Sustainability is a key criterion for supplier selection and qualification. We continue to consolidate our supplier base and select the best suppliers to ensure we support job creation; reduce the complexity of our manufacturing logistics and delivery; and meet our customers’ expectations, quality standards and delivery schedules. All our suppliers are required to adhere to our Supplier Code of Conduct and we continue to monitor high-risks markets to ensure adherence. No significant violations were discovered in 2016.

Environmental Footprint

To reduce the environmental footprint of our operations and services, we continue to work toward the following targets*:

  • Reduce absolute energy consumption, GHG emissions, water consumption and waste by 1% between 2014 and 2018.
  • Reduce relative water consumption and waste by 1% and energy consumption and GHG emissions by 3% per 200,000 worked hours between 2014 and 2018.
  • Increase waste valorization (valorized waste compared to total waste) by 3% between 2014 and 2018.

*Baseline data from 2013

As part of an ambitious energy strategy, Bombardier Aerostructures and Engineering Services’ Belfast site is driving several renewables projects to reduce both its costs and carbon footprint, including a rooftop solar installation at the Belfast wing manufacturing facility (above).  Solar, together with biogas and energy from waste, will provide around 70% of the Belfast site’s power by 2018.

Ethics and Integrity

Upholding the highest ethical integrity and leadership standards is vital to our current and future success. Our Code of Ethics and Business Conduct sets clear standards of behaviour that our employees and board members are expected to follow. In 2016, the Ethics and Compliance office received approximately 120 allegation reports. We have established new oversight and course catalogues for 2017 to enhance our ethics and compliance training for all employees, including e-learning and in-person trainings that cover topics such as harassment, conflict of interest, fraud, corruption, gifts, entertainment and sales ethics.

Anti-corruption and Anti-bribery

Bombardier has a zero-tolerance policy regarding corruption. As a global company, we inevitably encounter corruption and bribery risks in certain regions. We are aware of these risks and have implemented processes and support for employees to know how to react in these situations.
